America's aerospace and defense economy is distributed across several specialised corridors rather than one national hub. California combines space, military aircraft and advanced technology. Texas has major aircraft, missile, space and military operations. Virginia's economy is tied heavily to Pentagon procurement and shipbuilding, while Washington remains a global centre for commercial aerospace.

California and Texas have unusual breadth

Southern California still hosts a dense network of aerospace primes, space companies and suppliers. Texas adds Lockheed Martin operations, SpaceX facilities, NASA-linked activity and a large military footprint.

Both states also benefit from engineering labour markets large enough to support projects that require thousands of specialised workers.
